Eye-eye-eye

Much folklore and mythology is concerned with the eye, often in frightening, even gory imagery.

Freud wrote that, “A study of dreams, phantasies and myths has taught us that anxiety about one’s eyes, the fear of going blind, is often enough a substitute for the dread of being castrated.” (The Uncanny, 1919)

More recently, James Hillman has said, “The soul sees by means of affliction. The wound and the eye are one and the same.” (Re-Visioning Psychology, 1975)
