This is the first in my most recent series of painted collages. The idea of benign deities having wrathful images is fascinating to me. Flowers, too, can have rather fierce personalities. Among other meanings, representing deity with a fierce expression is a reminder to be vigilant in perceiving and cutting away illusion, so it feels appropriate that the name for pansy derives from the French word for a thought: pensée.
